Poetry in the Pines
Monadnock Writers’ Group and Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge collaborated on a poetry contest in 2018 and 2019. The winning poems are displayed on the trails at Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge.

2022 Contest Announcement

Submissions for the Poetry in the Pines contest are NOW OPEN through March 31, 2022. Poems must be no longer than eight lines and must be about nature in New England. You may submit up to 3 poems. Please email poems to monadnockwriters@gmail.com. The identities of poets will be removed prior to judging.

The award ceremony will be May 14th, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Cathedral of the Pines during which the winning poets will read their poems.

Poems will be judged by poet Susan Roney-O’Brien. Susan grew up in a small town, wrote, attended school, worked many jobs (factory assembly, nurse’s aide, genetics technician, researcher) before settling into teaching middle school English. She married, gave birth, lived longer than either parent, now grows gardens, keeps bees, raises chickens and walks. She is still writing.

Grassy Pond Trail

Six poems from the 2018 and 2019 contests are mounted on plaques stationed along the Grassy Pond spur trail leading from the parking area to Grassy Pond.
